展会报告(Show Reports):
Trade fair and conference showcase hydrogen solutions for a sustainable economy and establish global industry connections in Stuttgart
Will we see fuel-cell trucks on the road in two years’ time? Are there solutions for emission-free aviation ready for market launch? Will it soon be possible to produce green hydrogen at far lower cost? These questions and more were explored during hy-fcell – the international expo and conference that took place on 7 and 8 October in Stuttgart. With more than 120 companies exhibiting at the event, there was a strong international representation and plenty of interest from the experts despite strained market conditions.
From Baden-Württemberg to the world
Around 2,000 decision-makers, developers and users from industry, politics and research attended the industry get-together for hydrogen and fuel cell technology in order to find out more about sustainable energy and mobility solutions. “This year’s hy-fcell has once again highlighted the technology leadership of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the strength of Stuttgart as an economic region,” concluded Guido von Vacano, Executive Vice President of Messe Stuttgart.
The state of Baden-Württemberg itself also plays a key role in driving development: “The trade fair and the expert contributions illustrate the importance of hydrogen, particularly for a climate-neutral production, energy supply and logistics. At the joint stand of ‘The LÄND’, there are 23 exhibitors demonstrating the innovation required to develop the hydrogen economy,” explained Isabell Knüttgen, Head of Hydrogen Technologies at the state agency e-mobil BW, who was involved in its organisation.
Kick-off with networking event and a look behind the scenes
Before the trade fair even started, participants had the opportunity to take part in the Technical Tour the day before, when they were given an exclusive look behind the scenes at some of the leading hydrogen companies in the region: leak testing experts Zeltwanger, fuel cell developer GLOBE Fuel Cell Systems, as well as the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), presented the latest findings for electrolysis research and test infrastructure.
“When it comes to hydrogen technology, hy-fcell demonstrates how science and industry go hand-in-hand. The tour to leading regional companies highlights the enormous potential for value creation, climate protection and innovation in Baden-Württemberg,” explains Dr. Alexander Lahl, Director of the Verband Region Stuttgart.
The event concluded with an exclusive CEO Dinner in the New Palace of Stuttgart (Neues Schloss), where a select group of top executives from the worlds of research, politics and industry, among them Baden-Württemberg’s Finance Minister Dr. Danyal Bayaz and Dr. Stellberger, CEO of EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies GmbH, gathered to strategically discuss industry perspectives in a confidential setting.
Conference included for the first time and in greater demand than ever
A new feature this year was the inclusion of the conference on the trade fair ticket for the first time. An offer that was very well received! Visitors packed the trade fair hall to attend the 40 sessions taking place across three integrated stages. Speakers explored key topics such as electrolysis technologies, infrastructure development, decarbonisation in the mobility sector, logistics, legal framework conditions and international market strategies. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (Hydrogen Europe), Birgitte Johannessen (Avinor) and the former European Commissioner for Energy, Günther Oettinger, were among those invited to speak. A visitor survey confirmed the success of the conference: 96 percent regarded the integration of the conference into the trade fair ticket as important to very important.
Leading players counting on Stuttgart
With Siemens as hosting partner, hy-fcell was setting a strong signal: “We want to play a leading role in the introduction of hydrogen and fuel cell technology. And hy-fcell provides us with the perfect meeting point,” explains Robert Atkinson, Lead Hydrogen, Siemens Factory Automation.
The future of hydrogen and fuel cell technology was also demonstrated at the stand of Daimler Truck – with the new Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck. The joint venture cellcentric also presented its NextGen fuel cell system for long-distance applications.
Outlook: Energy Trio 2027
“In a year with difficult market conditions, hy-fcell has shown that the hydrogen economy is still very relevant and that we need this type of platform,” explains Guido von Vacano. 2027 will see a strong energy trio in Stuttgart when hy-fcell joins forces with eltefa and Volta-X for the first time, taking place together on 3 and 4 March.
